Give Up Sugar This Lent

Lent is about making space, space for God, for clarity, and for healthier rhythms of life. One simple but powerful way to do that this Lent is to give up sugar.

As someone with ADHD myself, I can honestly say this is one of the best changes you can make. Sugar creates sharp highs followed by deep crashes, leaving you restless, distracted, and drained. For people with ADHD, those swings can be especially intense. When you remove sugar, those extremes begin to settle. Energy becomes steadier, focus improves, and your mood is less at the mercy of sudden spikes and slumps.

That steadiness matters spiritually. Prayer becomes easier when your body and mind are not constantly overstimulated. Silence feels more bearable. You become more present, more attentive, and more grounded.

Giving up sugar isn’t about punishment or willpower. It’s about re‑regulation, helping your body and mind return to a healthier baseline. This Lent, consider giving up sugar, not just as a fast, but as an act of care for yourself and space for God to work.
